Visiting The Knitted Village of Llwyngwril

‘I recently read and article in my local paper, the Cambrian News, about the village of Llwyngwril in North Wales…’

The reason for the coverage in the weekly paper is that the community has been trying to raise funds for their local community centre.  A very worth cause, I’m sure you’ll agree.  However, not satisfied with your everyday, bucket-round-the-houses fund-raising actives, a group of residents got together to form the Llwyngwril Yarn Bombers.  What is a yarn bomber, I hear you cry? Well, basically, it’s a local person with mad knittin’ skillz.

However, instead of the usual jaggy jumper type monstrosities; you know, the ones your parents used to threaten you with wearing they they were trying to keep you in line? No?  OK, so just my parents, then.  How awkward…  Anyway, instead of these, the good people of the village have been in a knitting frenzy, decorating the streets in the most colourful and smile-inducing way.

Where was I? Oh yeah, so I read about it in the paper, grabbed Les and BOOM!  A short 30 days later, we rolled on in.  The village is kinda between the bigger towns of Tywyn and Dolgellau, and the setting is equally spectacular.  It’s a naturally gorgeous area, anyway, so the enhancements, and the fact that SO much work has clearly gone into the decorations, totally made my day.  If you haven’t seen it – you must go – it is guaranteed to make you grin from ear to ear.

This is the work of the Yarn Bombers in all its fabulous, woolly glory:

Have you visited the Yarn Bombers of Llwyngwril yet?

PS – The town is constantly changing themes and adding more stuff, so it’s never the same when you go back.  It seems to get better and better every time I drive through.
