‘Travel Bug’s been living in Wales for a while now and loves exploring.  He recently flew south to uncover some fascinating facts about Cardiff…’

Although he’s decided to make Dyffryn Ardudwy the new capital of Wales, he realises that Cardiff is still getting all the glory. He decided he’d pop down to see what all the fuss is about…

The Norwegian Church where Roald Dahl was christened.

Roald Dahl

Some guy called Roald Dahl, who seems to have written a few children’s books, grew up in Cardiff, and they even celebrate his birthday each year, on September 13th.

Travel Bug celebrates his own birthday every year, too…on January 26th.  He doesn’t get his own parade or anything, though.

Record Store

Cardiff is the location of the oldest record shop in the whole wide world.

Spillers Records has been in the city since 1894 and Travel Bug really wants to go have a look at their Shakira collection and she’s his very favourite Spanish language singer.

Captain Scott

Intrepid British explore, Captain Scott, set off from Cardiff on his very last expedition to the North Pole. He was never to return.

If only he’d known the city has more days of sunlight than the North Pole AND Milan, he’d maybe have stayed there.

Do you have any other fascinating facts about Cardiff for the Travel Bug?

Hasta pronto, amigos!
