‘The Travel Bug is enjoying his new life in Wales and has flown south to uncover 3 fascinating facts about Swansea…’

Swansea is Wales’ second largest city and, like Cardiff, is based in the south of the nation. These are the fascinating facts Travel Bug uncovered on his trip…
.

Luftwaffe

During the Second World War Blitz, the Luftwaffe unleashed hell on Swansea, dropping of more than 1,200 bombs and 56,000 IEDs. They completely destroyed a large portion of the city and killed more than 200 people.

This makes The Travel Bug very sad and he doesn’t like fighting.  Just because you can fly doesn’t mean you should drop bombs on people you don’t like.  Unless it’s a cat.  He hates cats.

Long Life

The oldest Welsh person ever, who lived until he was 112 years old, was from Swansea.  The Travel Bug thinks this is quite an achievement.  He’s only 4 years old, so has a few more years to go until he catches up.

Nobel Prize

Swansea has produced some very intelligent people.  These include the leader of the Large Hadron Collider, Dr Lyn Evans (who has a CBE, no less), and Sir Clive Grainger, who has a Nobel Prize for Economics.

The Travel Bug likes intelligent people, even though his own brain is made of what looks suspiciously like cotton wool stuffing…

Do you have any fascinating facts about Swansea to share with The Travel Bug??
