‘When The Travel Bug was on his Tuscan tour with his humans, he flew over and uncovered these fascinating facts about Siena…’
This is what he found out while flying around Siena…
Banking
The very first bank on the entire planet, the Monte dei Paschi di Siena, was founded in 1472 in the city. This was well before the Royal Bank of Scotland set up his local branch in Livingston in Scotland.
Travel Bug doesn’t really like banks much. He prefers to keep his Euros safely tucked in his shell at all times so he can buy carne whenever he wants…
Tower
Siena is home to the second tallest tower in the whole of Italy! The rather large Torre del Mangia is one of the most visited attractions in the whole of Italy.
Travel Bug flew all the way to the top and can confirm that it is, indeed, very, very high. Way too high for little bugs, to be honest.
Sports
Siena is a haven for popular sports, including football and basketball, but is also famous for being the start and end location of the Strade Bianchi, a professional cycling race, which covers more than 50 kilometres.
The race finishes at Piazzi del Campo in the old city. Travel Bug can’t use a bike as his legs are way too short.
Do you have any more fascinating facts about Siena to share with the Travel Bug?
Hasta pronto, amigos!
