‘The Travel Bug and his humans are roadtrippin’ across Texas and took a few days to stop off in Amarillo so TTB could uncover some fascinating facts…’
TTB knows that Americans are quite fond of their weapons, but he found out that Amarillo is home to the largest nuclear assembly plant in the entire country. Travel Bug was extra nice to everyone he met in Amarillo, just in case. He was even nice to his humans.
The outskirts of Amarillo are home to Cadillac Ranch, which is situated along the old Route 66 road. The ranch is a very famous piece of public art. It’s made up of a line of classic Cadillacs planted in the ground with their ends sticking out. All the cars are brightly spray painted and visitors are even allowed to add their own messages.
The Travel Bug asked his humans if he could write his name, but they said he’s too small for spray paint and should stick to crayons. Travel Bug es no muy feliz…
Big Texas Steak Ranch
Just up from TTB’s hotel room in Amarillo was the Big Texas Steak Ranch. The ranch is famous for its 72 ounce steak challenge. If any visitor can eat the entire steak (as well as sides) within one hour, they get it for free. Travel Bug likes free steak.
Travel Bug wanted to take the challenge, but apparently it’s only for humans. Travel Bug loves his carne, so he had to go to Whataburger instead…
Do you have any other fascinating facts about Amarillo to share with The Travel Bug?
Hasta pronto, amigos…
