‘What makes a great honeymoon destination? This question can only be answered by asking the newlywed couple, essentially, it’s all down to personal taste. Some people may like the idea of honeymooning in France, Italy or Barbados, but personally, I think Asia takes some beating…‘
What could possibly better than getting to spend some quality time alone with the love of your life in an isolated island or beach after months of wedding stress? In southeast Asia, you get to pick from a variety of options for your honeymoon – from wallet-friendly destinations to luxurious stays. It is an interesting mix between modern and ancient world, what with its skyscraping buildings in bustling cities and well-preserved temples amid jungles or on top of mountains, among many others.
If you are in the process of planning a southeast Asian honeymoon, Vietnam, Thailand, and Bali are definitely worth considering. Regardless of whether you are edging towards a beach holiday, a rural retreat or even looking into the many guided luxury tours of Vietnam, this part of the world really does have something for everyone.
I have selected three different destinations, one in Vietnam, one in Thailand and one in Bali. They may not be your first choice but for me, they tick all the boxes for great honeymoon destinations.
Hoi Anh, Vietnam – This ancient world heritage town is made for romantics. The architecture, colours and refined atmosphere make this stunning place a perfect destination for a honeymoon. All the buildings are painstakingly maintained to preserve the character of the town and most look too ornate to even step into, but this is a working town and the old buildings are actually in use and utilised as restaurants, coffee shops and traditional handicraft shops. With an expansive beach within a 10-minute drive and a selection of luxury hotels nearby, Hoi Anh is a perfect place to start your matrimonial journey.
Phuket, Thailand – Generally known as an international beach resort with a raucous nightlife, there are places on Thailand’s largest island where you can get away from it all and enjoy a luxury honeymoon. Getting out of the mainstream tourist areas, honeymooners can expect to find luxury spas, exclusive hotels, private beaches and idyllic beachside restaurants for lunch or dinner. If you do fancy a night away from the hotel, head to Patong where the party never stops!
Bali – This beautiful Indonesian island has been attracting tourists for years and is as popular now as it’s always been, but, despite the tourism, Bali still has an almost untouched feel about it and there are areas where you can find ample peace and tranquility and also resorts and hotels far away from the madding crowds. There are too many honeymoon options on Bali for me to pick any one out, I’d suggest reading up on the destination before you depart.
Asia is a massive continent and there are countless more honeymoon destinations available in other countries. The reason I picked the aforementioned destinations is that they have all the ingredients needed for an unforgettable honeymoon.
Although you can reach all these destinations independently, I’d suggest engaging the services of an experienced luxury tour operator, after all the last thing you want to be doing on your honeymoon is dealing with everything yourself! They can arrange everything for you, from your flight tickets, airport transfers, hotel and even the odd excursion should you wish to get out and about.
