‘While helping out his humans on their day trip to Melrose in the Scottish Borders, the Travel Bug managed to uncover these fascinating facts…’

Robert the Bruce

The heart of Robert the Bruce is buried in Melrose Abbey.  RtB used to be the King of Scotland and he’s almost as famous as Travel Bug. The rest of the former King him lies in Dunfermline Abbey in Fife.

Travel Bug isn’t entirely sure why he’s not all buried in the same place.  When he dies, he doesn’t want his shell buried separately from the rest of him, thanks very much.

Teddy Bears

Melrose is home to Scotland’s very first teddy bear museum. Travel Bug isn’t sure how many teddy bears are in Scotland that they need a whole museum for them. He doesn’t really like teddy bears that much, anyway, so he probably won’t visit.

He doesn’t want to be competing with anyone else to go travelling with his humans, so he likes to be the only squishy friend in his house.

Rugby Sevens

Melrose is the birthplace of Scotland’s famous rugby sevens competition. This is rather hotly contested every year by teams throughout the UK and always sparks off the rivalry between the Borders teams.

Travel Bug’s humans say he looks a bit like a rugby ball, due to the shape of his shell, but he doesn’t think this is true.

Do you have any other fascinating facts about Melrose to share with the Travel Bug?

Hasta pronto, amigos!
