‘Travel Bug touched down in the Czech capital on Sunday to celebrate his 6th birthday. These are the fascinating facts about Prague he’s discovered, so far…’
Is Prague Castle really the largest in the world??
Yes, it is. Prague Castle complex spans out over an incredible 18 acres of land in the city. It’s officially listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest castle in the world. The castle has been in place for more than 1,000 years and is the official residence of the President of the Czech Republic.
On a less fun note, Hitler spent the night in Prague Castle, in 1939, after stealing it from the Czech people and making it the base for the Reich Protector of Bohemia and Moravia. Travel Bug doesn’t really like that but he knows it’s still a fascinating fact about Prague.
Do Pragueites really drink that much beer??
They do indeed. In fact, the good people of Prague drink more, per capita, than any other city in the world. That’s a whole lot of beer! It’s estimated they each consume around 155 litres of beer per year. Travel Bug’s human mum was very pleased to hear that because she likes drinking beer. She particularly likes drinking beer from the Czech Republic.
Why has Zizkov Television Tower been voted the second ugliest building in the world?
Travel Bug doesn’t really know because he loves it. He got to go to the top of Zizkov Tower and look across the city. He does know it maybe looks a little out of place, given the beauty of Prague. Travel Bug likes anywhere he can go up high without having to actually make the effort of flying because he’s muy perezoso…
He wasn’t quite so keen on the climbing baby statues of Zizkov Tower cos he thought they were a bit creepy.
Do you have any other fascinating facts about Prague to share with Travel Bug?
Ahoj (goodbye) from Prague!
